  • The Minister of Public Works & Infrastructure, Dean Macpherson, released the findings of investigative reports into the George Building Collapse of 6 May 2024 at a Media Briefing, following a meeting with families, in George on Saturday morning.
  • The Minister emphasised that the building’s collapse was entirely preventable, and pointed to a number of lapses which occurred, including that structural issues, which were identified in 2023 already, was covered up.
  • The Minister vowed to introduce a number of legislative reforms, including modernising regulations, to avoid this tragedy from ever occurring again, and urged police to hold those accountable for the loss of 34 lives.
