In giving effect to Minister Zikalala’s announcement during the DPWI 2023 budget vote speech where he said, “by the end of July 2023, the CBE will engage stakeholders to develop a position paper on the possibility of establishing DPWI Skills Academy or College to address the skills needs of the Department and the sector.”

The Council for the Built Environment (CBE) CEO Dr Msizi Myeza and Construction Education and Training Authority (CETA) CEO Mr. Malusi Shezi met on 23 June 2023 to discuss the areas of collaboration in the context of the existing memorandum of understanding the parties had signed.  At the said meeting both CEOs agreed on the following –

  1. CBE and CETA will activate the signed MOU in executing a joint implementation programme with specific project deliverables.
  2. CETA and CBE will form part of the task team for the execution of the DPWI academy and other projects that have been agreed to.
  3. CETA and CBE will mobilise stakeholders critical for the success of this project, namely Ministry of Department of Higher Education and Training; DDG for TVET Colleges, TVET Principals, QCTO voluntary associations, CIDB, DPWI EPWP, and Professional Services Branch and others.
  4. CETA to assist with some of the baseline work or reference documentation in artisan development.

Both CEOs commit to working together on areas of mutual interest as part of a broader government programme of transforming the Built Environment Sector and contributing to the skills pipeline strategy.
